Before you download

What you need

You need your own copy of Diablo II. The installer and launcher handle the rest.

Operating system
Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
Diablo II
A copy of the Diablo II game folder on your PC (Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, 1.14d).
Internet
For the download and for launcher updates. The game itself is single player in beta 0.1.

Install

From download to Sanctuary

Four steps, one time. After that the launcher takes care of updates.

  1. Run the installer

    Download D2RUST-Setup-latest.exe and run it.

  2. If Windows protects your PC

    D2RUST is not code-signed yet, so Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway.

    Only run an installer you downloaded from this website or the official GitHub repository. If you would rather not bypass the warning, you can build both the launcher and the game yourself from source.

  3. Point it at your Diablo II folder

    The launcher looks for your Diablo II folder and pre-fills common locations. Confirm it, and you're ready to play. Your original install is not modified.

  4. Play — and stay updated

    The launcher starts the game. On later runs it downloads and updates the game for you, keeping your saves and settings.

D2RUST is a Windows build today. The code is cross-platform apart from a few desktop integrations, and Linux and macOS builds are planned — but not available yet. Need help with the install? The support page covers the common questions.
